Humming softly under his lips, Joey set about the kitchen, smiling as he worked. He was in a good mood - it was a Sunday after all. And Sunday meant pancake day.

Pancake day was the best kind of day.

Sunday was the day after they made an attempt to get to the shops every week, so usually there was a full bottle of chocolate syrup in the fridge. Sunday was their favourite day because they both had it off work, and it was a rule that whoever was up first had to make the other pancakes.

So Joey set about his task with a smile, serving a generous helping of pancakes, ice cream and syrup for both of them. When he was done he picked up both the plates, heading to Darren’s door, kicking at it with his foot.

“Darren!” he hollered. “Pancakes are ready.”

No response.
